Dairy Queen is giving away free ice cream cones on March 20, 2025. USA TODAY

Spring is still a few weeks away, but Dairy Queen is already celebrating warmer days. The popular ice cream and fast-food chain is bringing back its Free Cone Day this month, giving customers a sweet way to welcome the new season.

Dairy Queen will offer a free small vanilla ice cream cone for one day in March. "Did someone say Free Cone Day?! Now that’s a day we can all get behind!" the company announced. "Kick off treat season with a complimentary DQ small vanilla cone."

The brand even joked about how much they love this event, saying, "We love it so much, we might just declare it a national holiday!"

When is Free Cone Day?

Dairy Queen’s Free Cone Day is set for March 20, the first official day of spring. The company says it wants to help people celebrate the change of seasons with a sweet treat. The promotion will be available at participating locations across the country.

How to Get a Free Ice Cream Cone

Getting your free Dairy Queen cone is simple. Just visit any participating DQ location on March 20 and ask for a small vanilla soft-serve cone. The offer is limited to one cone per person while supplies last.

To find the nearest Dairy Queen, visit their website or download the DQ mobile app.

Win Free Ice Cream for a Year

This year, Dairy Queen is adding extra excitement to Free Cone Day. They are running a special contest where lucky fans can win free cones for an entire year.

"Now through March 19, fans can download the DQ App and sign up for DQ Rewards to enter for a chance to win Free Cones for a Year!" the company said.

The contest is open to U.S. residents, except those in Texas. The winners will enjoy a year’s worth of Dairy Queen’s famous soft-serve for free.

So, whether you’re excited for Free Cone Day or hoping to win free ice cream for a year, Dairy Queen is making sure this March is extra sweet!
