A batch of coffee pods has been pulled from shelves because of a packaging issue. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says the problem is minor and doesn’t pose any health risk. However, the company behind the product decided to act quickly to make sure customers get the quality they expect.

What Happened

New Mexico Piñon Coffee recalled 154 boxes of its Dark Piñon Single Serve 10-count coffee pods. The company that makes them, CinFranky LLC, based in Albuquerque, started the recall on June 20. The reason? Some pods didn’t seal correctly, which caused the ink on the lid to smear when heated in machines like Keurig brewers.

The FDA gave the recall a “Class III” label. That’s the agency’s lowest level of risk. It means the product is unlikely to cause health problems, but it still didn’t meet safety standards.

Company Responds

A spokesperson for New Mexico Piñon Coffee said the company deeply values product quality. “This issue was isolated and not dangerous, but it didn’t meet our standards,” they explained. “We’ve fixed it and are working to improve our process.”

The company also thanked customers for their trust and support during the recall.

What You Should Know

The recalled coffee pods were marked with:

  • Product Number: F03308
  • UPC: 812361033081
  • Lot Code: 251749
  • Best By Date: May 8, 2026

These pods are designed for use in single-cup brewing machines and contain flavored ground coffee.

CinFranky LLC contacted stores and customers using email, fax, letters, phone calls, and in some cases, direct visits. If you have the affected pods, don’t use them. Instead, check the FDA recall listing or contact the store where you bought them for refund or return options.

More Recalls in the News

This is not the first coffee recall this year. In March, another brand had to pull nearly 700 cases of ground coffee from 15 states because some bags were labeled as decaf when they were not.

FDA Explanation

The FDA explained the issue clearly: the clear coating on the cup lids didn’t apply properly. Because of this, the ink on the lid ran when hot water was used in brewing machines.

Next Steps

The recall is still active. The FDA will continue to monitor it. The company is expected to finish contacting stores and removing any affected products. Consumers can stay updated by checking the FDA’s Enforcement Report.
