Taco Bell is known for having fun with its food, and this holiday season, the fast-food giant is taking things to another level. The chain has introduced a brand-new dessert — the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie — inspired by its famous tropical lime soda. The limited-time treat officially launches nationwide on November 6, just in time for Friendsgiving gatherings across Canada and the U.S.

The new pie has already grabbed attention for its bright blue-green colour and bold flavour. Taco Bell describes it as a refreshing, citrusy dessert similar to a key lime pie, complete with a graham cracker crust and a generous layer of whipped cream on top.

From meme to menu

The idea for the Baja Blast Pie started as an internet joke. Fans had long shared memes and fake photos of a “Baja Blast dessert,” wishing it were real. Taco Bell decided to make the dream come true.

As the company said in its announcement, “Driven by a wave of fan-made memes, the community kept the dream alive until Taco Bell finally made it fork-ready for the fans.”

The dessert was first teased at Taco Bell’s Live Más convention in March, and the early reactions online were so enthusiastic that the brand decided to bring it to life.

How to get your hands on one

The Baja Blast Pie will sell for $19.99 at participating Taco Bell locations across the country. You can only buy it as a whole pie, not by the slice. Each customer is limited to one pie per order, and it’s available only at the front counter or drive-thru.

Quantities are limited, and Taco Bell warns that this will be one of its most exclusive fan launches ever. Once a location sells out, that’s it — there won’t be any restocks. So, fans hoping to try the neon dessert might want to line up early.

A frozen twist for superfans

For those who want a smaller taste of the dessert, Taco Bell is also introducing the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie Chiller. The frozen drink blends pieces of the pie into a creamy vanilla ice cream base, creating what the company calls “a sweet and creamy frozen treat.”

The chiller will be sold in 16-ounce ($4.19) and 20-ounce ($4.59) sizes, but only at select Live Más Café locations in Southern California and Texas, also starting on November 6.

A fun spin on a classic

The Baja Blast Pie continues Taco Bell’s tradition of playful and surprising menu creations. While the dessert might look unusual with its bright colour and soda-inspired flavour, the company promises a sweet, tangy taste similar to the tropical refreshment fans already love.

Those who can’t grab a slice before it’s gone might consider making their own key lime pie at home — perhaps with a hint of blue colouring for a Taco Bell twist.
