After three decades of serving loyal customers, Chicken for Lunch in downtown Edmonton will open its doors for the final time on Thursday, marking the end of an era for the beloved institution.

Amy Quon, the founder of Chicken for Lunch, revealed on Wednesday that the closure stems from a combination of a major renovation and the end of her lease agreement.

For over 32 years, Amy has forged deep connections with patrons, offering them hearty portions of rice, noodles, and her renowned dry, spicy chicken. The announcement of the closure was made on Amy's Instagram three weeks ago, leading to a surge in business as loyal customers rushed to savor one last meal.

Despite the long lines and bustling atmosphere, Amy remains grateful for the outpouring of support from her community, which has been the lifeblood of her business. Regular customers, like Anthony Wu and Ryan Ball, attest to the unique bond created not just by the food but by Amy's warm hospitality.

Acknowledging the overwhelming support, Amy expressed her gratitude by giving each customer a special fortune cookie and extending her best wishes for their future endeavors.

While bidding farewell to Chicken for Lunch is bittersweet, patrons can find solace in knowing that Amy will continue her culinary journey at the Quon family's other establishment, The Lingnan.

As the clock ticks down to its final day on Thursday, February 29, Chicken for Lunch leaves behind a legacy of delicious food and cherished memories, woven into the fabric of downtown Edmonton's culinary landscape.
