In Pointe-Sapin-Centre, New Brunswick, RCMP officials are launching an investigation into a homicide following a shooting incident in a community situated along the province's northern coastline.

According to a press release, law enforcement responded to a call reporting the incident at a residence on Route 117 in Pointe-Sapin at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly discovered the body of a 52-year-old individual within the residence. However, specific details regarding other occupants of the home were not disclosed.

Authorities have disclosed that they apprehended a 70-year-old individual suspected to be involved in the incident, with the assistance of a Parks Canada peace officer.

The suspect now faces a murder charge and is slated to appear in Moncton provincial court on Tuesday.

The RCMP's major crime unit has assumed control of the investigation and is urging individuals possessing dashcam or security footage relevant to the incident to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
