Morocco takes center stage as the guest country at the 21st edition of the International Food Show (SIAL) Canada, set to take place from May 15 to 17 at the Palais des Congres in Montreal. El Mehdi El Alami, the Director of Promotion and Development at Morocco Foodex, expresses excitement about this opportunity.

El Alami highlights Morocco's return to SIAL Canada as a chance to exhibit the quality, sustainability, and diversity of Moroccan agricultural and fishery products. Being the guest country is seen as a significant opportunity to promote Moroccan origin and reinforce the nation's status as a producer and exporter of agricultural goods.

The event acts as a platform for industry stakeholders to explore current market trends, enhance exports, and establish partnerships. Among the 18 national exhibitors, Morocco will be represented.

Morocco's participation comes amidst growing trade ties between the North African country and Canada. Recent data shows a substantial increase in bilateral trade, with Moroccan agri-food exports to Canada reaching MAD 1.5 billion in 2022 ($149 million), marking a 47% rise from 2019 and a 26% increase from 2021. The agri-food sector accounts for 63% of Morocco's total exports to Canada in 2022.

Morocco Foodex plans to organize culinary demonstrations and facilitate business-to-business meetings between Moroccan exhibitors and Canadian buyers during the event. These initiatives aim to strengthen commercial relationships and explore potential collaborations.

El Alami expresses enthusiasm about showcasing Morocco's culinary expertise at SIAL Canada. The event provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the nation's capabilities and identify new partnership prospects.

In summary, Morocco's prominent role as the guest country at SIAL Canada underscores its commitment to promoting its agri-food sector and enhancing bilateral trade relations with Canada. The event serves as a platform for showcasing Morocco's culinary diversity and fostering meaningful business connections between Moroccan producers and Canadian buyers.
