Nearly 7,000 Pounds of Hot Dogs Recalled Due to Inspection Issues (Photo credit: USA TODAY)

A Kentucky meat company is recalling almost 7,000 pounds of hot dogs that were made without proper federal inspection, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The announcement was made on July 15, 2024, highlighting the importance of food safety standards.
The hot dogs were produced by AW Farms located in Argillite, Kentucky, with production starting on May 30, 2024. These ready-to-eat hot dogs have a shelf life of 45 days, which means they could still be found in various restaurants and hotels across Ohio and West Virginia. The USDA is urging these establishments to avoid serving the affected products and to either dispose of them or return them to their suppliers.

The specific hot dogs being recalled come in 10-pound boxes that contain two 5-pound vacuum-sealed packages. The products include:

  • "FRENCH CITY FOODS 6" 12-1 HOTDOGS"
  • "PORK, BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL MEAT HOTDOGS"
  • "BEEF, DEXTROSE, SALT, SUGAR MAPLE GEO BROWN ALL BEEF HOTDOGS"

These items lack the necessary inspection stamp, identified by the recall number "EST. 47635." The issue was first discovered when state health officials alerted the USDA about the situation.

The recalled hot dogs were distributed to various restaurants and hotels in the affected states, although the USDA did not specify which locations received them. Thankfully, as of the latest update, there have been no reported health issues related to these products. However, the USDA advises anyone who has eaten these hot dogs and feels concerned to contact their doctor.

This recall serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of food safety and federal regulations in the meat industry. Proper inspection is vital to ensure that all food products meet health and safety standards, protecting consumers from potential foodborne illnesses.

If you work at a restaurant or hotel and suspect you might have these hot dogs in your inventory, it’s essential to check your supplies immediately. Dispose of any recalled products and inform your management team about the recall. This action will help ensure the safety of your customers and maintain compliance with food safety regulations.
