If you’re ready to move past pumpkin spice, Sonic has something new for you. The drive-in chain is launching a Bourbon Caramel Iced Coffee—a fall drink with no cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin in sight.

The drink officially arrives nationwide on November 3, but fans can grab it early through the Sonic App starting October 20. It’s priced at $3.69 for a medium, making it one of the more affordable fall coffee options around.

A Sweet Blend of Coffee and Caramel

Sonic says the new beverage combines cold brew coffee with a sweet bourbon caramel syrup, giving it a smooth, rich flavour. The drink is poured over the chain’s well-known nugget ice, layered with caramel drizzles, and finished with whipped cream—plus a tiny cowboy hat as a playful touch.

Though the name hints at bourbon, it’s completely non-alcoholic, offering just the flavour notes of bourbon’s signature warmth.

The Bourbon Caramel Iced Coffee joins Sonic’s Salted Caramel Toffee Iced Coffee, another dessert-inspired drink already on the menu. That version features buttery toffee, cold foam, and crunchy toffee bits, proving that Sonic is leaning heavily into sweet, treat-style beverages this year.

Experimenting Beyond the Ordinary

This new creation fits into Sonic’s growing list of experimental drinks. Earlier this year, the Oklahoma-based brand made headlines with its pickle-flavoured slushes and dill-covered tots, created in partnership with Grillo’s Pickles.

Sonic also joined the “dirty soda” trend by introducing cream-topped lemonades, keeping pace with popular online drink ideas. The company seems to enjoy taking risks with bold flavours and viral concepts.

Born from a Creative Challenge

Interestingly, the Bourbon Caramel Iced Coffee wasn’t developed in a typical test kitchen. It was first introduced on the show “On Brand with Jimmy Fallon,” a series where contestants pitch creative ideas for big-name companies.

One of those ideas came from Bianca Fernandez, a social media strategist from New York, who proposed a coffee with bourbon-inspired caramel flavour. Sonic executives loved the idea’s “playful spirit” and “bold flavour profile,” and decided to bring it to life.

“It’s not every day you see someone’s flavour idea go from a dream to a drink, but that’s exactly what makes Sonic so fun,” said a Sonic representative. “We love being the place where creativity meets cravings.”

Limited-Time Offer

The new Bourbon Caramel Iced Coffee will only be available for a limited time, so fans eager to try it should act fast. Whether you’re over pumpkin spice or just want a refreshing twist for fall, Sonic’s latest drink might be the perfect sip to welcome cooler weather.
