Indiana Fever’s star rookie Caitlin Clark has added another milestone to her remarkable WNBA season. On Wednesday, Clark set a new rookie record for 3-pointers, surpassing Rhyne Howard’s previous record of 85 set in 2022. Clark made three of her twelve 3-point attempts during the game against the Connecticut Sun, bringing her season total to 88.
In addition to her record-setting performance, Clark contributed 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists, helping the Fever secure an 84-80 win over the Sun. This victory was significant for Indiana, as it ended an 11-game losing streak against Connecticut. Clark's achievements continue to pile up in her rookie season, including setting the single-season rookie assist record, the single-game assist record, and being the first rookie in Fever history to record a triple-double.

Following the game, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell praised Clark, noting how her on-court chemistry with the team continues to improve. "Caitlin brings so much to the game," Mitchell said in a post-game interview. "Not only does she have incredible pace, but she’s also an outstanding shooter. With her, you always have to be ready."

Mitchell had her own standout performance, scoring 23 points, marking her fifth consecutive game with 20 or more points—a new franchise record. Her connection with Clark on the court continues to strengthen, making the Fever a formidable team in the league.

Indiana’s victory against Connecticut was their first since July 2021. The Fever, now with a 15-16 record, have been on a roll, winning four of their last five games since returning from the WNBA's Olympic break. Meanwhile, the Connecticut Sun’s three-game winning streak came to an end, leaving them with a 22-8 record.

During the final moments of the game, with Indiana holding a narrow 82-80 lead, Clark’s long-range 3-point attempt narrowly missed. Connecticut quickly called a timeout with 38.6 seconds remaining. Marina Mabrey worked to manage the clock but passed to Alyssa Thomas, who was then stripped of the ball by Indiana's Temi Fagbenle with just 24.1 seconds left. Fever’s Lexie Hull, a reliable 76% free-throw shooter, calmly sank two crucial free throws with 19.4 seconds remaining, extending Indiana’s lead to four points. DiJonai Carrington’s last-second 3-point attempt fell short, allowing Clark to grab the rebound and run out the clock.

Hull, in only her second start of the season, impressed with 17 points and eight rebounds. The Fever showed strong shooting from beyond the arc, hitting 13 of their 30 3-point attempts, with Hull and Mitchell each sinking four.

For Connecticut, Carrington led the team with 19 points. Thomas contributed 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while Mabrey added 16 points off the bench. DeWanna Bonner finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win for the Sun.

Indiana held a 51-42 lead at halftime, with three players scoring in double digits. Mitchell led with 13 points, while Hull and Clark each scored 10. The Fever shot an impressive 55% in the first half despite a turnover-heavy game, with the teams combining for 21 turnovers.

Adding to the excitement, American gymnastics superstar Simone Biles, fresh off her Olympic success in Paris, was in attendance. Track star Gabby Thomas, who also won three gold medals in Paris, joined Biles in celebrating with the players in the Fever locker room after the game.
