Planning your next vacation just became simpler! National Geographic has unveiled its highly anticipated list of top global destinations for 2025, highlighting extraordinary places around the world. This list, crafted by a team of travel experts and international editors, aims to showcase adventure, culture, conservation, and sustainability in the travel experience.
The editor of National Geographic emphasized that this list isn't just about celebrating these locations; it also aims to inspire travelers and promote responsible tourism. "It's the idea that no matter who you are as a traveler or what you’re interested in, there’s something for you to be inspired by," they said. This initiative encourages travelers to explore and embrace new adventures while being mindful of their impact on the places they visit.

Among the 25 destinations, travelers will find exotic locations like Greenland, Japan, and India. Interestingly, the list also highlights three captivating spots right in the United States:

  • Boise, Idaho: Known for its rich cultural heritage, including the highest concentration of Basque people in the U.S. Boise will host the Jaialdi festival in July 2025, celebrating Basque culture with music, performances, sports, food, and traditional competitions.
  • Ocala National Forest, Florida: A beautiful natural area known for its stunning lakes, springs, and diverse wildlife, offering outdoor adventures and serene landscapes.
  • Los Angeles, California: A vibrant city that continues to draw visitors with its mix of entertainment, culture, and breathtaking scenery.

Moving to Europe, travelers can find exciting destinations such as:

  • Cork, Ireland: A lively city known for its rich history and cultural offerings.
  • Outer Hebrides, Scotland: A stunning archipelago with breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife.
  • Brasov, Romania: This medieval city has become more accessible with the opening of Romania's first new airport in 50 years. Visitors can hike along the newly completed Via Transilvanica, a trail that spans 870 miles and showcases 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including remarkable painted monasteries built in the 16th century.

In Asia, noteworthy destinations include:

  • Abu Dhabi, UAE: A blend of modernity and tradition with incredible attractions.
  • Suru Valley, India: Known for its scenic beauty and cultural richness.
  • Raja Ampat, Indonesia: Famous for its stunning marine biodiversity.
  • Bangkok, Thailand: A vibrant city known for its rich culture and delicious cuisine.
  • Kanazawa, Japan: A city known for its beautiful gardens and traditional crafts.
  • Eastern and Oriental Express, Malaysia: This luxury train offers scenic journeys through Malaysia, resuming service in 2024 after a four-year hiatus.

In Africa, the top destinations feature:

  • Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa: Home to the Babanango Game Reserve, where visitors can witness the reintroduction of wildlife, including elephants and endangered black rhinos.
  • Tunisia: Known for its rich history and beautiful landscapes.
  • Senegal: A culturally vibrant country with stunning scenery.

In Australasia, travelers can explore:

  • Northland, New Zealand: Known for its beautiful beaches and rich Maori culture.
  • Murray River, Australia: The third-longest navigable river in the world, set to launch a new river cruise in 2025, offering wine tastings and wildlife spotting on multi-night adventures.
