The Buffalo Sabres secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, led by Jiri Kulich's standout performance. Kulich tallied a goal and two assists, sparking the Sabres' comeback and energizing his teammates. J.J. Peterka added a goal and an assist, while Tage Thompson scored his 21st goal of the season, keeping his top-scorer status intact. Rasmus Dahlin played a crucial role with two assists, showcasing his ability to create game-changing opportunities.

Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was a rock for Buffalo, saving 32 of 34 shots and providing the stability the team needed after a tough 6-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Monday.

For the Canucks, Elias Pettersson and Phillip Di Giuseppe found the back of the net, with Di Giuseppe scoring his first goal of the season. Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko made 23 saves but couldn’t stop the Sabres' determined push.

The game marked the absence of Vancouver defenceman Tyler Myers, who began serving a three-game suspension after cross-checking Edmonton’s Evan Bouchard in a heated match last Saturday. Similarly, Oilers captain Connor McDavid faced a three-game suspension for his retaliatory strike on Canucks’ Conor Garland in the same game.

Takeaways

For the Canucks, Tyler Myers’ suspension created a gap in their defence. Mark Friedman, called up from the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, stepped in and partnered with team captain Quinn Hughes. Despite a limited ice time of just over 15 minutes, Friedman performed admirably. Pettersson broke a six-game goal drought after recovering from an undisclosed injury, but the Canucks failed to capitalize on his return.

The Sabres faced their own lineup challenges, with veteran winger Jason Zucker sidelined by illness after his strong showing against Seattle. Buffalo adjusted by fielding 11 forwards and seven defencemen, a move that paid off with solid contributions from across the roster.

Key Moment

The defining play came midway through the third period when Rasmus Dahlin delivered a precise pass across the faceoff circle to Peterka, who unleashed a powerful shot beneath Demko’s pads. That goal at the 13:33 mark sealed the game and handed the Sabres the win.

Key Stat

The Canucks' struggles with consistency continued, as they failed to secure back-to-back wins since December 1. Their record since then stands at 7-9-7, highlighting the challenges they face in regaining momentum.
