Matthew Knies scored his 21st goal of the season, while Auston Matthews added an assist and took six shots on goal, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs secure a 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz was the standout player of the game, making 26 saves on 27 shots.

February 07, 2025

The Toronto Maple Leafs extended their winning streak to three games with a solid 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz, making his first start since December 12, delivered an impressive performance with 26 saves.

Leafs Dominate Early

Toronto set the tone early, opening the scoring just over seven minutes into the game. Defenceman Philippe Myers found the net for his first goal of the season and his first since 2022.

Midway through the first period, a high-sticking double-minor by Seattle’s Chandler Stephenson gave the Leafs a power-play opportunity. Bobby McMann capitalized on the chance, doubling Toronto’s lead with a well-placed shot past Kraken goalie Joey Daccord, who finished the game with 27 saves.

Knies Extends Scoring Streak

In the second period, Matthew Knies kept Toronto’s momentum going by netting his third consecutive goal in as many games. The play was briefly reviewed for a potential high stick, but the goal stood, solidifying the Leafs’ lead.

Kraken Struggles Continue

Seattle managed to get on the scoreboard early in the third period when Eeli Tolvanen broke through Stolarz’s shutout bid at the 5:43 mark. Despite their efforts, the Kraken failed to generate more offence and struggled to keep up with Toronto’s aggressive play.

Seattle’s issues in the opening frame continued, as they have now allowed seven goals in their last three first periods, contributing to a three-game losing streak.

Penalty Kill Perfection

Toronto’s defensive discipline played a crucial role in their victory. The Leafs successfully killed all five of Seattle’s power plays, neutralizing any chance of a Kraken comeback. One of the game’s pivotal moments came when Myers was penalized for interference in the first period. Despite being shorthanded, the Leafs outshot the Kraken 4-0 during the two minutes, demonstrating their dominance on both ends of the ice.

Looking Ahead

With this win, the Maple Leafs continue their strong form, while the Kraken will need to regroup and address their defensive struggles as they look to snap their losing streak.
