MOTD Pundits Applaud VAR’s Role in Liverpool vs. Wolves Clash

Liverpool remains at the top of the Premier League table after a tense 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite a lacklustre second-half performance, the Reds held on to their lead, maintaining a seven-point cushion over their closest rivals. With 13 games remaining, the battle for the title is intensifying, and every point matters.

Liverpool’s Grit Overcomes a Nervy Second Half

Sunday’s match at Anfield showcased Liverpool’s ability to grind out results even when not at their best. A first-half goal from Luis Díaz and a Mohamed Salah penalty put them ahead. However, they failed to register a single shot in the second half, a rare occurrence for the team. Wolves pushed hard, but Liverpool’s defence held firm.

After the match, defender Andy Robertson acknowledged the mounting pressure. "Everyone gets nervous—the players, the fans—it’s natural," he said. "But we got the job done, and that’s what matters."

Liverpool manager Arne Slot echoed similar sentiments, praising his squad’s ability to adapt. “Winning isn’t always about flashy football. Sometimes, you have to dig deep and defend well,” he told the media.

The Road Ahead: Can Liverpool Be Caught?

Liverpool is currently the favourite to lift the Premier League trophy. According to statistical models, they have an 87.65% chance of winning, leaving Arsenal with a slim 12.35% shot. The Reds' upcoming fixtures are packed, with crucial matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City before February ends.

March offers some respite, with only one league match against Southampton. However, their schedule remains challenging, with the EFL Cup final against Newcastle and the Champions League knockout rounds looming.

The season finale sees Liverpool facing Crystal Palace at Anfield, a game they hope will be a mere formality in securing the title.

Arsenal’s Chase: A Tough Path Ahead

Arsenal remains unbeaten in their last 15 league games, a streak that has kept them within touching distance of Liverpool. Their biggest test will come on May 10 when they travel to Anfield, a match that could determine the fate of the title.

Before that, they had difficult fixtures against Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool. The Gunners also face six teams from the top half of the table in their final 13 games, making their path significantly harder.

Who Has the Easier Run-In?

Liverpool’s biggest challenges include away games at Aston Villa and Manchester City, as well as a home clash against Arsenal. However, Arsenal arguably has a tougher run, facing strong opposition in both home and away fixtures.

Historically, teams with a seven-point lead at this stage rarely let it slip. While the title race isn’t over, Liverpool’s grip on the trophy remains strong.
