Former Londoner breaks Guinness record for eating hot sauce. CTV News

February 24, 2025 Tags:

Mike Jack, originally from London, Ontario, now living in Nova Scotia, has broken another Guinness World Record. He ate 1.495 kilograms of hot sauce at a hot sauce expo, reclaiming his previous record.

Jack had set the record before at 1.12 kg, but it was beaten. The latest record stood at 1.18 kg, which he surpassed. “It’s like eating three-and-a-quarter pounds of hot sauce or the equivalent of a 12-pack of sauce,” Jack explained.

His career revolves around hot sauce. He sells his own brand, attends events, and creates social media content. He trained hard for over a month to prepare for this challenge.

Eating the sauce had strict rules. It had to be in a bowl, and he couldn’t touch it with his hands. “I had to use a teaspoon and scoop it up with just my wrist,” he said. The challenge required speed, endurance, and a high tolerance for spice.

Jack has spent years increasing his heat tolerance by adding hot sauce to his food daily. Once he realized there were records for eating spicy foods, he decided to compete.

“The heat wasn’t the problem, but the sheer amount was tough,” he said. After consuming the sauce, he compared the feeling to overeating on Thanksgiving. “I was super bloated. I couldn’t fit anything else in,” he added.

Jack is no stranger to breaking records. Some of his achievements include the fastest time to eat a head of lettuce, the fastest banana-eating without hands, and drinking a liter of tomato sauce the quickest. He also holds records for consuming extreme chili peppers like the Carolina Reaper and Ghost Pepper.

There was no Guinness official at the event, so Jack had to get witnesses to confirm his record. He used local politicians, including an MP, an MPP, and a London City Councillor, to verify his attempt.

“They read the rules, watched me do it, and gave their statements,” Jack said. He will submit the video proof, and once approved, his achievement will be officially recognized.
