The Dallas Stars are one win away from reaching the Western Conference Final for the third straight season. The Winnipeg Jets, however, will fight to keep their playoff hopes alive in Game 5 at Canada Life Centre on Thursday night.

With their season on the line, Winnipeg hopes to continue their strong home-ice success. The Jets are 5-1 at home in the playoffs, their only loss being Game 1 of this series. Backed by the raucous “White Out” crowd, they’ll aim to extend the series and force a Game 6.

Winnipeg's Home Ice Advantage

The Jets thrive under pressure and at home. They staged a dramatic comeback in Round 1 against St. Louis, scoring twice in the final two minutes of regulation before winning in double overtime. That experience fuels their belief heading into Game 5.

Coach Scott Arniel knows what it takes to bounce back. “Our backs are against the wall,” he said. “We’ve learned to deal with pressure and find ways to win. This is no different.”

Dallas Eyes the Conference Final

The Dallas Stars are laser-focused on closing the series and punching their ticket to the Western Conference Final. With a 3-1 series lead, they need just one more win to advance—and avoid a momentum swing.

The Stars are no strangers to the playoffs’ intensity. “We know they’ll come out flying,” said forward Wyatt Johnston. “We’ve been here before. We just need to match their energy and play our best.”

If Dallas advances, they'll become the fifth team in 20 years to reach the conference final in three straight seasons.

Jets Shuffle, Then Reset Their Top Line

In Game 4, Winnipeg broke up its top offensive line for matchup reasons. But they’re expected to reunite Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Gabriel Vilardi for Game 5. This trio has been key to the Jets’ playoff run.

Connor leads the team with 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 11 games. Scheifele has eight points in nine games. Their chemistry could be crucial as Winnipeg seeks to turn the tide.

Stars Lean on Tactical Depth

Coach Pete DeBoer is sticking with the 11-forward, seven-defensemen format that worked in Game 4. It allowed defenseman Miro Heiskanen, returning from a long absence, to ease back into action. Heiskanen played just under 15 minutes—well below his season average—but helped manage the game effectively.

Meanwhile, Mikko Rantanen continues to shine. He led Dallas in ice time among forwards in Game 4 with 23:49 and notched an assist. Rantanen now leads all playoff scorers with 19 points in 11 games.

Key Stat to Watch

Dallas holds a dominant all-time record of 13-1 when leading a best-of-seven series 3-1. That history heavily favors the Stars. But the Jets are hoping to flip the script on home ice.

Teams trailing 3-1 and playing Game 5 at home have a 68-54 all-time record. However, none have succeeded in that spot this year—yet.

What to Expect Tonight

The Jets need a fast start, unity, and their stars to deliver. “You don’t think about the next game,” said defenseman Luke Schenn. “You just focus on tonight.”

Dallas, on the other hand, looks to stay composed, win the battles, and close the series.

As Coach DeBoer summed up, “Winning in the playoffs comes down to small margins—special teams, goaltending, 5-on-5. We’re finding ways to win those tight games.”

Bottom Line: Game 5 promises drama, energy, and high stakes. Will the Jets force a Game 6, or will the Stars move one step closer to the Stanley Cup? Hockey fans won’t want to miss this clash.
