A baby toothbrush sold at Dollarama stores across Canada is now under recall after a potential choking hazard was discovered. Health Canada has officially flagged the Oracare Baby Brush for a manufacturing flaw that can cause the toothbrush to snap into two parts, posing a serious safety concern for infants and toddlers.

What Happened?

Health Canada issued the recall after learning the toothbrush could break apart while in use. The concern lies in the brush's design—if it breaks, small pieces could enter a child’s mouth, increasing the risk of choking. So far, Dollarama has received one complaint related to the defect. Thankfully, no injuries or choking incidents have been reported either to the store or to Health Canada.

How Did Dollarama Respond?

Dollarama took immediate action once the issue was brought to light. The company has stopped importing and selling the Oracare Baby Brush across all its stores in Canada. Customers who already purchased the product are being urged to stop using it right away.

Dollarama has not issued a formal recall process for returns or refunds, but given the seriousness of the matter, Health Canada is advising parents to discard the brush and not to take any risks, especially with such young users involved.

What Should Parents Do Now?

Health Canada is urging all parents and guardians to check if they have the Oracare Baby Brush at home. If so, they should:

  • Stop using it immediately
  • Seek medical help if a child has been injured or shows signs of choking
  • Dispose of the product safely

The agency emphasized that no reports of injury have surfaced yet, but it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and to prevent any future incidents.

Final Note

While this may seem like a minor recall, for parents, anything that goes into a baby’s mouth needs to meet the highest safety standards. The Oracare Baby Brush incident serves as a timely reminder to double-check baby products for quality and safety, even when purchased from trusted retail stores.
