Carolina Hurricanes' Jackson Blake, right, celebrates with Jesperi Kotkaniemi (82) after scoring during the first period of an NHL hockey game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, in Pittsburgh.
Carolina Hurricanes fans can breathe easy — rising forward Jackson Blake isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The NHL team has officially signed the 21-year-old to an eight-year contract extension worth $45 million, securing one of their brightest young stars for the long haul.
A Promising Future for Blake in Carolina
The new deal kicks in from the 2026-27 season. Blake still has one more year remaining on his entry-level contract. His average annual value (AAV) on paper is $5.625 million. However, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the actual AAV will be closer to $5.1 million due to deferred payments. This kind of deferred deal will reportedly be banned under the upcoming collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
Despite that, Carolina acted swiftly to lock Blake in early — a clear sign of trust in his potential.
Rookie Season Made a Strong Statement
Blake made a name for himself in the 2024-25 season, his first full year in the NHL. He delivered 17 goals and 17 assists over 80 regular-season games. In the playoffs, the young forward added three goals and three assists across 15 appearances, proving he could handle pressure when it mattered most.
His performance didn’t go unnoticed. Blake's impact was enough to convince Hurricanes management that he is a vital part of their future core.
Hurricanes See a Bright Star Rising
General Manager Eric Tulsky praised Blake’s contributions and work ethic.
“Jackson had an outstanding rookie season,” Tulsky said in a team statement. “We think he’s only scratching the surface of the player he can be.”
Tulsky emphasized Blake’s on-ice intensity and dedication to team culture. “His tenaciousness on the puck and competitiveness match our team’s identity. We’re excited about his future here in Carolina.”
From Draft Pick to Franchise Player
Blake’s journey has been one of steady growth and development. Selected 109th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, he wasn’t a highly touted name back then. But with hard work and consistent performance, the young forward climbed the ranks and earned a place in Carolina’s lineup.
His new eight-year NHL contract shows how far he’s come — and how much faith the Hurricanes have in his potential.
Building for Long-Term Success
The decision to offer Blake a long-term NHL contract extension fits with the Hurricanes' broader strategy. They’re not just playing for the present; they’re building a foundation for lasting success. Locking in a high-upside talent like Blake sends a message — this team is focused on consistency, culture, and championship contention.
What This Means for the Hurricanes
This deal gives Carolina long-term security and cap clarity, especially valuable under the NHL’s financial structure. By signing Blake early, they’ve avoided the risk of skyrocketing his price with future breakout seasons.
For Blake, it’s a massive vote of confidence and a chance to continue growing in an environment where he clearly fits.
With a new NHL season on the horizon, Jackson Blake now knows exactly where his future lies — at the heart of the Carolina Hurricanes’ vision.
