Bocheng Mei, a 26-year-old software worker from Toronto, couldn’t feel his hands or feet when he saw he had won $60 million in the LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball draw.
It all started with a call from an unknown number. Mei had missed an earlier email about the win. The person on the call claimed to be from the lottery office and asked him to check his account. Mei wasn’t sure if it was real.
"I'm talking to OLG people, but at the same time I'm googling the number, googling trying to find any information to verify if this is legit," Mei said in a video that shared the big moment.
Family Comes First
After logging into his account and seeing the $60 million prize, Mei’s first move was to call his parents.
"I said, 'now you guys never have to worry about money anymore. You can just retire now, you can enjoy the rest of your life,'" he told them.
His parents were shocked. His friends? They jumped up and down with excitement when he told them.
Dreams Take Flight
Mei isn’t planning to spend the money all at once. He wants to use some of it to continue his education and explore the world.
He has his eye on some truly cold places — Iceland, Finland, and Antarctica. These places may be freezing, but the natural beauty there has always amazed him.
"[I'd] love to see the Aurora Borealis and just everything that's new to me," he shared.
A Life-Changing Call
Mei's story is one of surprise, joy, and thoughtful plans. He didn’t just think of himself. He thought first about helping his parents enjoy the rest of their lives stress-free. That single phone call changed everything for him and the people he loves.
