Belleville’s popular North China Buffet has been forced to shut its doors following a major health regulation violation. The South East Health Unit (SEHU) has issued a closure order against the restaurant, citing a “serious breach” of Ontario’s Food Premises Regulation.

Dumpster Incident Sparks Immediate Action

The decision came swiftly after a disturbing video began circulating on social media. The footage showed one individual retrieving items from a dumpster and walking them into the restaurant. Moments later, another person was seen climbing out of the same dumpster and entering the premises. The video sparked widespread concern among the public.

This visual evidence prompted SEHU to investigate the situation thoroughly. Following their findings, the health unit deemed the restaurant environment unsafe for food service.

Health Unit Takes Immediate Control

SEHU confirmed that it is actively working with the restaurant’s operator. Their joint goal is to address all health violations and implement effective corrective measures. Officials have not disclosed the complete list of infractions but have emphasized the seriousness of the situation.

The health unit also made it clear: the restaurant will stay closed until a comprehensive reinspection confirms the premises meets all safety standards.

No Reported Illness—But Caution Urged

While no foodborne illness has been reported yet, SEHU is urging vigilance. Customers who have recently dined at North China Buffet and are experiencing any signs of illness should seek medical advice.

SEHU encourages these individuals to contact them directly at 613-966-5500 ext. 677 to report symptoms and receive guidance.

Safety and Transparency Take Priority

The closure highlights the importance of maintaining food safety standards in all dining establishments. SEHU stressed that they are committed to public safety and are taking every step necessary to ensure this issue is handled transparently and efficiently.

Community Response and Future Inspections

The local community has expressed both shock and concern following the video’s release. North China Buffet has long been a dining staple in Belleville. This incident has not only shaken customer trust but has also ignited conversations around food safety awareness.

SEHU will continue monitoring the situation. The restaurant’s future reopening entirely depends on passing a full inspection that guarantees health standards are fully restored.

Final Word: Food Safety Must Come First

This incident serves as a serious reminder that food safety regulations exist for a reason. From dumpster-related concerns to overall cleanliness, restaurants must follow strict protocols to protect their patrons.

For now, the North China Buffet remains closed. SEHU promises to keep the public informed about future developments and the restaurant’s status.

If you've dined at the North China Buffet recently and feel unwell, don't ignore it. Call SEHU at 613-966-5500 ext. 677.
