Manchester United stormed past Bournemouth with a convincing 4-1 win in the Premier League Summer Series in Chicago. The victory at Soldier Field showed a sharper, more cohesive Red Devils side—one that finally seems to reflect Ruben Amorim’s strategic imprint.

Hojlund Gets United Rolling Early

Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring early with a precise header that set the tone for United’s dominance. The striker looked lively from the first whistle, constantly testing the Bournemouth backline. His energy gave United the upper hand, and the Cherries were chasing the game soon after.

Dorgu Doubles the Lead

Before the half-time whistle, Patrick Dorgu capitalized on a flowing move to slot home United’s second goal. The young full-back, who impressed last season, seems poised to take on a bigger role. His performance added weight to the belief that Amorim’s system suits his playing style perfectly.

Diallo and Williams Seal the Rout

The second half saw more of the same. Amad Diallo continued the attacking momentum with a clinical finish to make it 3-0. Later, substitute Ethan Williams added a fourth goal, capping off what was arguably United’s most complete pre-season performance so far.

Bournemouth’s Lone Response

Andoni Iraola’s side struggled for most of the match but managed a late consolation goal. Matthijs de Ligt accidentally deflected the ball past Tom Heaton, offering Bournemouth a small reward for their efforts. However, the result was never in doubt.

Missing Stars? No Problem for United

United were without two key signings—Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Cunha was sidelined due to fatigue, while Mbeumo did not feature at all. Even in their absence, the team looked fluid and well-drilled. The win builds on United’s earlier 2-1 victory over West Ham and sets them up for a potential tournament win if they beat Everton next.

Amorim’s Vision Coming Together

Ruben Amorim has hinted that implementing his tactical ideas would be easier during pre-season. That prediction is proving accurate. The performance against Bournemouth was more than just a win—it was evidence of real progress.

United played with intensity, moved the ball quickly, and maintained structure even under pressure. The link-up play between Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount stood out, suggesting that the duo could thrive under Amorim’s system. Mount, in particular, looked far more comfortable in his role.

Cohesion, Confidence, and Control

While pre-season games don’t always offer a full picture, United’s performance was packed with positives. They appeared confident, well-organized, and comfortable within their new formation. That’s a big change from previous outings under Amorim, where the team often looked out of sync.

Young Stars Make Their Mark

Several young talents stood out. Beyond goalscorers like Dorgu and Williams, others showed maturity and tactical awareness. This could be a pivotal summer for United’s next generation.

What’s Next in the Summer Series

United will face Everton on August 3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. A win would see them crowned champions of the Premier League Summer Series. The match kicks off at 10 PM IST and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth take on West Ham earlier the same day at 7 PM IST. With both clubs looking to bounce back, the Atlanta fixtures promise high drama.
