Christina Applegate and her daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, attend the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Feb. 26, 2023.
Christina Applegate has always been candid about her health struggles. But this time, she shared something that truly stings.
The Dead to Me actress recently revealed a painful conversation with her 14-year-old daughter, Sadie, about her life with multiple sclerosis (MS).
A Daughter’s Words That Cut Deep
During an emotional chat on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, Applegate said something many parents with chronic illness may relate to.
She recounted a difficult exchange with her daughter, saying, “We got into a big thing the other day.”
Sadie’s words were simple but hit hard:
“I miss who you were before you got sick.”
Applegate didn’t hold back her emotions as she recalled the moment.
“That is just like a knife to the heart,” she said.
“I miss who I was before I got sick too. Very much.”
Finding Strength in Motherhood
Despite the pain, Applegate credits her daughter as her driving force.
“I get up because of her,” she shared.
“She’s the reason I’m still here and trying.”
Her bond with Sadie keeps her going. Even on the hardest days.
Still Struggling with Acceptance
Applegate, diagnosed with MS in 2021, has spoken out several times about how difficult it’s been to accept her new reality.
On Hoda Kotb’s Making Space podcast in April, she admitted,
“I’m angry at it still.”
She went on to say that many people who are newly diagnosed feel the same way.
“There’s a lot of us out there not quite ready to accept this,” she explained.
Her raw honesty paints a picture of what it’s like to live with a disease that changes everything.
Living with MS: A Long Road
Applegate’s diagnosis in 2021 was publicly announced through a heartfelt tweet. As always, she leaned into her dark humor to break the news:
“It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition.”
She didn’t sugarcoat what life has been like.
“It’s been a tough road,” she wrote.
“But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some asshole blocks it.”
That wit remains a key part of how she faces her MS diagnosis—head-on and unfiltered.
MS Doesn’t Define Her, But It Changed Everything
Though MS has taken a toll on her physical and emotional health, Applegate continues to fight.
Each day is a battle. But she’s still standing—for her daughter, for herself, and for others facing similar struggles.
Her story reminds us of the personal toll chronic illness takes—not just on those diagnosed, but on the ones they love.
And while her journey with MS is ongoing, Christina Applegate is determined to keep moving forward—with courage, humor, and brutal honesty.
