America’s Amanda Anisimova created history by storming into her maiden US Open final 2025, defeating Japan’s Naomi Osaka in a thrilling semi-final clash at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday. The 24-year-old American overcame early nerves and a one-set deficit to script a stunning comeback, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.

This victory marks Anisimova’s second Grand Slam final of the year after her Wimbledon appearance. On Saturday, September 6, she will battle defending champion Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus for the coveted title.

Osaka Takes Early Control

The US Open semi-final began with high intensity. Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, showed her trademark power and precision to edge out Anisimova in the opening set. The Japanese star claimed the tiebreak, forcing the American to chase the game.

Anisimova Strikes Back

The second set saw drama at its peak. Trailing 5-6, Anisimova displayed nerves of steel and broke back to push the set into a tiebreak. With relentless baseline rallies and composed shot-making, she turned the tables on Osaka, sealing the set 7-6.

The Arthur Ashe crowd erupted as the contest headed into a decisive third set.

One-Sided Final Set

The final set of this US Open women’s semi-final shifted momentum completely. Anisimova grew in confidence while Osaka struggled to regain her rhythm. The American broke early and never looked back, closing the match 6-3.

Fans rose to their feet as Anisimova soaked in the applause after toppling the seasoned 27-year-old champion.

Sabalenka Awaits in the Final

Earlier in the day, Aryna Sabalenka booked her place in the US Open 2025 final by defeating Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was a repeat of last year’s final, and once again, Sabalenka emerged victorious.

Saturday’s showdown promises high drama as Anisimova chases her first-ever Grand Slam trophy, while Sabalenka aims to defend her crown.

Anisimova on the Win

Speaking after her career-defining triumph, Anisimova admitted the contest was mentally and physically demanding.

“Oh my god, it was amazing tennis. Naomi really gave me a run for the final,” Anisimova said. “I tried to dig deep. It was a huge fight out there today.”

She added, “There were a lot of nerves in the beginning. This tournament means so much to me. Playing in the final is a dream I’ve had forever. The hope is to be the champion. I am just excited for the final, and it feels really special.”

What’s Next at the US Open 2025

The stage is now set for a blockbuster US Open women’s final. Amanda Anisimova will fight for her maiden Grand Slam title, while Aryna Sabalenka looks to cement her dominance with back-to-back wins.

With form, grit, and confidence on her side, Anisimova enters the final carrying the hopes of American fans.
