The Green Bay Packers started their NFL season in commanding fashion, led by quarterback Jordan Love and tight end Tucker Kraft. Their 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders on Thursday night marked Green Bay’s second straight win over a playoff team from last season.

Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns, showing poise against a struggling Commanders defense. Kraft provided a career night, helping the Packers maintain control and prevent Washington’s late push.

Green Bay Packers Offense Finds Early Rhythm

Green Bay wasted no time setting the tone. Love’s first touchdown came on a 5-yard pass to Romeo Doubs, capping off a 96-yard drive that included a 57-yard strike to Kraft. Running back Josh Jacobs added to the momentum with a 2-yard score, finishing a 92-yard march that highlighted the Packers’ balanced offense.

By halftime, Green Bay led 14-3, thanks to long, efficient drives. Love finished 19 of 31 with two scores, even without key linemen Zach Tom and Aaron Banks.

Tucker Kraft’s Breakout Performance

Kraft emerged as Love’s go-to target, catching six passes for a career-best 124 yards. His 8-yard touchdown with just under nine minutes left sealed the win after Washington threatened a comeback.

“Hopefully, I can keep stacking games like that,” Kraft said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever gone over 100 yards, including college.”

His chemistry with Love gave the Packers a reliable connection in crucial moments.

Green Bay Packers Defense Stifles Jayden Daniels

While the offense clicked, Green Bay’s defense made life miserable for Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. The rookie was sacked four times and pressured throughout the night, managing just 200 passing yards with two late touchdowns.

Washington gained only 11 yards in the first quarter and didn’t score a touchdown until the fourth. Defensive end Micah Parsons credited the unit’s discipline.

“We gave up more points than we wanted,” Parsons said. “But we made them earn everything. No big plays.”

Commanders’ Injuries Pile Up

The loss was made worse by injuries to key Commanders players. Running back Austin Ekeler left in the fourth quarter with an Achilles injury, while defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. was carted off earlier with a quadriceps issue.

Head coach Dan Quinn provided no immediate updates.
“We’ll use the weekend to see where we’re at,” Quinn said.

Tight end John Bates, wide receiver Noah Brown, and cornerback Jonathan Jones also exited with injuries, deepening Washington’s concerns.

Commanders Struggle to Find Rhythm

Washington’s offense never truly settled. Daniels’ two touchdowns—a 20-yarder to Zach Ertz and a 10-yard strike to Deebo Samuel—came when the game was nearly out of reach. Kicker Matt Gay added a 51-yard field goal but missed twice from long range.

“I just felt like we didn’t find the rhythm we needed,” Quinn admitted.

Historic Struggles Against Green Bay Packers Continue

The Commanders’ loss added to their long-standing woes at Lambeau Field. Washington hasn’t won there since 1986, and the Packers have now beaten them in seven straight home matchups.

Green Bay Packers Celebrate Sterling Sharpe

At halftime, Green Bay honored former wide receiver Sterling Sharpe, recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sharpe, who played for the Packers from 1988-94, received a warm salute from fans during the ceremony.

Looking Ahead

With back-to-back wins against playoff contenders, the Packers are off to their best start since 2020. Love and Kraft have already proven they can anchor the offense, while the defense continues to pressure opposing quarterbacks.

For Washington, the challenge lies in overcoming injuries and finding consistency before their season slips away.
