The Vancouver Canucks are back on home ice at Rogers Arena on Monday for a Thanksgiving matchup against the St. Louis Blues. After a strong season opener, the Canucks are eager to build momentum in front of their fans.
Home ice has been kind so far. In their season opener, Vancouver scored five goals, securing its first win of the year. Star forwards Brock Boeser and Filip Chytil are already finding the back of the net consistently, each tallying two goals in the first two games. Jake DeBrusk has contributed with two assists, showing early-season chemistry with his teammates.
In goal, Thatcher Demko has been solid, posting a 0.944 save percentage over two starts. Fans will be watching Canucks Insider’s social media Monday morning for updates on whether Demko will start again or if Kevin Lankinen will get his season debut.
Blues Look to Bounce Back
The St. Louis Blues had a rocky start to the season, losing 5-0 to the Minnesota Wild in their opener. However, they quickly rebounded with a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Former Canuck Pius Suter found the scoreboard for St. Louis, playing on the third line alongside Alexandre Texier and Jimmy Snuggerud. Jake Neighbours impressed on the top line, scoring twice with linemates Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich.
On defense, Justin Faulk (23:58 ATOI) and Cam Fowler (23:17 ATOI) logged the most ice time in the Blues’ first two games. Goaltending has rotated, with Jordan Binnington allowing five goals in the opener and Joel Hofer surrendering two on 29 shots in Saturday’s game. Faceoffs have been a bright spot for St. Louis, as Brayden Schenn is dominating the dot, winning 19 of 30 draws for a 66.7% success rate.
Quinn Hughes Sets New Franchise Record
The Canucks have more reason to celebrate this week. Quinn Hughes recorded an assist on Brock Boeser’s goal Saturday, surpassing Alex Edler as the franchise leader in points by a defenceman.
Hughes now has 410 points in 435 games for Vancouver, a milestone he described as meaningful. “It means lots. It’s a great organization. A lot of great players have come through over the 56 or 57 years the Canucks have been around. Honoured for sure,” Hughes said.
