A small plane crash in central Mexico turned deadly on Monday after an attempted emergency landing. At least seven people were killed, according to state officials. The incident triggered a major fire and forced evacuations in a busy industrial zone.

Emergency Landing Ends in Disaster

The small aircraft went down in San Mateo Atenco, a municipality near Toluca. The area sits around five kilometers from Toluca International Airport.

Officials said the plane was attempting an emergency landing shortly before the crash. The aircraft had departed from Acapulco, located along Mexico’s Pacific coast.

Plane Hits Building, Sparks Fire

According to Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrián Hernández, the aircraft tried to land on a soccer field. Instead, it struck the metal roof of a nearby business, triggering a large fire.

Flames quickly spread, sending thick smoke into the air. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to control the blaze and begin rescue operations.

Casualties and Passenger Details

Authorities confirmed the jet was carrying eight passengers and two crew members. Hours after the crash, seven bodies had been recovered.

Search operations continued as officials worked to account for everyone on board. Investigators have not confirmed whether there were survivors.

Evacuations Ordered After Fire

San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muñiz said the fire posed serious risks to nearby businesses and residents. Around 130 people were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Emergency teams sealed off the area while firefighters worked to extinguish remaining hot spots. No injuries on the ground were reported.

Location Near Major Transport Hub

The crash site lies in a densely developed industrial zone west of Mexico City. The proximity to Toluca airport raised immediate concerns about aviation safety and emergency preparedness.

Traffic disruptions were reported as authorities restricted access to nearby roads. Businesses in the area were temporarily shut down.

Investigation Underway

Officials confirmed that the cause of the plane crash remains under investigation. Aviation authorities are examining mechanical records, flight data, and weather conditions.

Investigators will also review communications between the flight crew and air traffic control. Witness accounts from people near the site are being collected.

National Attention on Aviation Safety

The central Mexico plane crash has drawn national attention due to the number of fatalities and the dramatic fire. Authorities stressed that updates would follow once identification processes are complete.

Officials urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues. Support services have been offered to families of the victims.

A Community in Shock

Residents described hearing a loud explosion before seeing flames rise above nearby buildings. Many said the quick evacuation helped prevent additional casualties.

As cleanup efforts continue, San Mateo Atenco remains on alert. Officials say safety inspections will follow once the site is cleared.
