Jennifer Hudson turned heads with a striking bridal-inspired look as she stepped onto the red carpet at the 8th Annual American Black Film Festival Honors. The event took place on February 16 at The SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and drew many well-known names from the entertainment world.
The 44-year-old singer and actress chose a pearly white gown designed by Jean-Louis Sabaji. The dress featured a fitted bandeau-style corset top and a ruched skirt decorated with delicate floral appliqué details. Sequins covered the gown, giving it a soft shimmer under the lights. A thigh-high slit added a bold touch to the otherwise romantic look.
Stylist Kellen Richards worked with Hudson to create the elegant appearance. She wore her brunette hair down in her signature corkscrew curls. Her makeup followed a soft glam style, including a shimmery eye look, subtle blush, and a glossy lip. She completed the outfit with pointed-toe heels and a delicate diamond necklace.
A Night Honouring Talent
The annual awards ceremony celebrates achievements in film and entertainment. Organizers present several honours each year, including the Hollywood Legacy Award, Entertainment Icon Award, Excellence in the Arts Award, Renaissance Award, Industry Visionary Award, Rising Star Award, Classic Cinema Award, Evolution Award, and Horizon Award.

This year’s honourees included Dwayne Johnson, who received the Entertainment Icon Award, and Angela Bassett, who earned the Excellence in the Arts Award. Jennifer Hudson received the Renaissance Award, recognizing her ongoing contributions to music, film, and television. Other recipients included Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Damson Idris.
Hudson has built a strong presence in the industry over the years. From her early days as a singer to her Academy Award-winning performance and her current role as host of her own talk show, she continues to expand her career.
Life Beyond the Red Carpet
While Hudson often appears polished and glamorous in public, she has spoken openly about the demands of her work schedule. In a past interview, she reflected on the importance of rest and personal time.
"I feel like sometimes we’re not allowed to say we're tired because people think we're ungrateful. It’s like, 'No, no, no. I appreciate what I do.' But sometimes we need a little reset and a little rest. That don't mean we’re complaining," she said.
She also shared thoughts about reconnecting with herself when she is not working.
"But you know, my spirit would be flying around everywhere, child. It’s like my home is within me – every place I go feels like it. But in my perfect world, it’s where I’m sitting right now in Chicago in the residence I call home. But that routine when I’m not working? I have to rediscover those things. It’s like, 'Okay, where am I now versus when I left here the last time?' It’s rediscovering yourself. And I’m a sponge. I’m taking from everything and everywhere I’ve been."
Hudson described her ideal off-day as simple and peaceful.
"It’s like reintroducing yourself to yourself. I love to get up, have my little sip of coffee, and sit here and hear the birds chirping. That’s how I want to start my day. And then I want to set my mind. I love affirmations. What do I want this day to be? And I don’t like no day where I can’t achieve something. But right now, I just want to sit here. To me, that is the definition of a real off-day. Or to have the liberty to say, 'You know what? Right now, I’ll do whatever the hell I want.'"
As she continues to balance a busy career with moments of reflection, Hudson remains one of the industry’s most admired performers — both for her talent and her authenticity.
