Manchester City and Real Madrid secured their spots in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals with victories on Wednesday, but their journeys to advancement took different paths.

City sailed to victory with a 3-1 win over Copenhagen, extending their aggregate lead to 6-2. The reigning champions wasted no time asserting dominance, finding themselves 2-0 up within the first 10 minutes thanks to goals from Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez.

Mohamed Elyounoussi pulled one back for Copenhagen in the 29th minute, but Erling Haaland's second-half stoppage-time goal sealed the deal for City. With this win, City maintain their flawless record in the Champions League this season, establishing themselves as formidable contenders.

On the other hand, Real Madrid's journey to the quarterfinals was less straightforward. In a lackluster performance against RB Leipzig, they managed a 1-1 draw, advancing with a narrow 2-1 aggregate score. The match saw a goal drought from both sides until Vinicius Junior broke the deadlock for Madrid with a counterattacking goal in the 65th minute.

However, their lead was short-lived as Willy Orban equalized for Leipzig just three minutes later. Despite late attempts from both teams to secure a decisive goal, including Dani Olmo's effort hitting the crossbar in the 92nd minute, neither side could capitalize. The match ended with both teams generating low expected goals scores, leaving much to be desired in terms of performance.

With contrasting victories, Manchester City and Real Madrid join the elite ranks of teams advancing to the quarterfinals, each facing their own challenges and triumphs along the way.
