In a thrilling Group E match at the European Championship in Frankfurt, Germany, Belgium suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Slovakia, despite Romelu Lukaku initially scoring twice, only to have both goals overturned after video review. Slovakia took an early lead through Ivan Schranz's seventh-minute strike and held on despite Belgium's relentless attacks and missed opportunities, particularly from their star forward Lukaku and playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

The pivotal moment of Slovakia's victory came when defender Dávid Hancko made a courageous goal-line block, albeit sustaining a facial injury in the process, which denied Belgium an equalizer. Celebrating their triumph, Slovakia's team and staff jubilantly danced in front of their supporters at Waldstadion, accompanied by the anthem "Freed From Desire."

Reflecting on the match, midfielder Stanislav Lobotka, named the game's standout player, emphasized the significance of the win for Slovakia, noting that not everyone had believed in their ability to achieve such a result.

Belgium, led by coach Domenico Tedesco, faced frustration as Lukaku, who holds multiple scoring records for his country, failed to capitalize on several scoring chances throughout the match. The Belgian team, previously undefeated in 15 games under Tedesco, now prepares to face Romania after their disappointing defeat.

Meanwhile, Slovakia, with less preparation time, gears up to meet Ukraine following their impressive performance against Belgium. The upset victory over Belgium came after an error in defense by Jérémy Doku, compounded by Slovakia's relentless pressing and effective strategy despite fielding older players in key positions.

Slovakia's veterans, such as Juraj Kucka and Peter Pekarík, who have played pivotal roles since the nation's first qualification for the European finals in 2016, were instrumental in securing the historic win. Coach Francesco Calzona expressed pride in their performance, highlighting Kucka's resurgence and Pekarík's professionalism as key factors in Slovakia's success.

For Belgium, the defeat extends their scoreless streak in recent tournaments, following an unexpected early exit from the 2022 World Cup. Their upcoming match against Romania in Cologne will be crucial as they seek to bounce back from this setback and reassert their dominance in Group E.
