"Deadpool & Wolverine" exceeded expectations this past Sunday, raking in $211 million during its opening weekend in North American theatres, according to Disney's Monday announcement. This impressive figure is $6 million more than initially projected on Sunday, catapulting the movie into a higher echelon of box office success.
Directed by Shawn Levy and featuring stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film has set a new record for the highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated movie. It now holds the title of the sixth-highest opening weekend of all time, surpassing "Jurassic World," which earned $208.8 million in its 2015 debut.

With this accomplishment, The Walt Disney Company can now lay claim to five of the top six biggest box office openings in history (not adjusted for inflation). These top performers include two "Avengers" movies ("Endgame" and "Infinity War") and two "Star Wars" films ("The Force Awakens" and "The Last Jedi"). The only non-Disney film in this elite group is "Spider-Man: No Way Home," released by Sony and produced by Marvel Studios.

The unexpected success of "Deadpool & Wolverine" also significantly boosted its global earnings, which have now reached $444.3 million. This impressive total surpasses the global earnings of "Avatar: The Way of Water."
