Disney has unveiled ambitious expansion plans for Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World, confirming several new attractions and areas, including the much-anticipated Villains Land, a “Cars”-themed area, and a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge. These updates were shared by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim.
D’Amaro emphasized that these plans are not just speculative but are actively in development. "Everything we’re going to share with you is in active development," he stated, reassuring fans that work is already underway on these projects.
One of the most exciting announcements is the confirmation of Villains Land. Initially introduced as a concept during the 2022 D23 Expo, this area will be dedicated to the iconic villains from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The new land will feature two major attractions, along with dining and retail options. While specific details about the attractions have yet to be revealed, concept art hints at a coaster with thorny embellishments. A promotional video showcased several famous villains, including Ursula, Maleficent in dragon form, Jafar, Scar, and more. Although no opening date has been provided, Disney confirmed that preparations for Villains Land are already in progress.
Another major surprise is the addition of a “Cars”-themed area in Frontierland. This new section will include two attractions, the first of which is a mountain rally race with 4x4 vehicles navigating through challenging terrains, such as mudholes and geysers. The concept art depicts off-road vehicles racing along a hilly dirt track with familiar characters like Lightning McQueen and Mater cheering them on. A second, more family-friendly attraction will cater to younger visitors with a focus on smaller racers. Construction for the “Cars” area is set to begin in early 2025.

In addition to these new lands, Disney also announced a new nighttime parade titled “Disney Starlight,” set to debut in the summer of 2025. This parade, inspired by the classic “Main Street Electrical Parade,” will feature updated technology and beloved characters from movies like “Peter Pan,” “Encanto,” and “Frozen.” The parade will be led by the Blue Fairy, promising a magical experience for park visitors.
Finally, Disney has provided an update on the previously announced Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern, now confirmed to open in Adventureland in 2025. This immersive tavern will extend the story of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean ride, with concept art showcasing a richly decorated space filled with pirate-themed decor, including a smoking cannon, hanging shackles, and an anchor chandelier. The tavern will feature both table service and standing areas, with hints that it may serve alcohol, similar to other themed lounges at Disney parks.
Overall, these announcements mark a significant expansion for Magic Kingdom, with plenty of new experiences in store for Disney fans in the coming years.
