Nicole Kidman is set to captivate audiences with her role in the new Netflix mini-series "The Perfect Couple," which brings a gripping murder mystery to the small screen. The six-part series is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel and promises a blend of suspense and drama.
In this adaptation, Kidman stars as Greer Garrison Winbury, a renowned murder mystery novelist and the formidable matriarch of a wealthy American family. Her character is pivotal to the story, which revolves around a high-profile wedding set against the backdrop of a Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The plot centers on Amelia Sacks, portrayed by Eve Hewson, who is a zookeeper about to marry into the affluent Winbury family. The wedding, planned by Kidman's character, is supposed to be a grand affair at the Winbury estate. However, the celebration takes a dark turn when a body washes ashore on the day of the nuptials, setting off a chain of events that reveals long-hidden secrets and prompts a murder investigation.
Nicole Kidman shared her enthusiasm about the project, saying, “I grew up on murder mysteries and haven’t seen one like this for a while, so it was really exciting to be a part of it and to be able to produce it as well.” She described her role as “so different” from her recent work, including her appearance in "Babygirl," an erotic drama she showcased at the Venice Film Festival. Kidman relished the chance to play a character who is both strong and powerful, reflecting her constant quest for new and varied experiences in her acting career.
Liev Schreiber, who plays the family patriarch Tag, initially had reservations about joining the series. However, after discussions with director Susanne Bier and Kidman, Schreiber was drawn to the dark and intriguing nature of the role, describing it as “deliciously dark and wonderful.”
Eve Hewson’s character, Amelia, is positioned as the outsider in the family. Hewson expressed some envy toward the Winbury family members for their clever dialogue, saying, “I was the grounded one... the serious one.” The series features a diverse cast, including Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy, Jack Reynor, Billy Howle, Sam Nivola, and Ishaan Khatter, all contributing to the rich tapestry of the story.
"The Perfect Couple" is set to premiere on Netflix this Thursday, promising viewers an enthralling mix of drama, mystery, and family intrigue.
