Tom Holland has been cast in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, joining Matt Damon in a highly secretive project. Nolan wrote the screenplay and will direct, with Universal Pictures set to release the film on July 17, 2026.

While specific details about the plot remain a mystery, sources suggest the film won't be set in the present day, though it's unclear whether the story takes place in the past or the future.

Nolan is producing the project alongside his wife and longtime collaborator, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy banner. This new film marks a reunion between Nolan and Universal, the studio behind Oppenheimer. That film, which earned Nolan his first Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture, grossed an impressive $976 million globally.

Oppenheimer was Nolan's first collaboration with Universal after parting ways with Warner Bros. in 2020. While Universal secured Oppenheimer through a competitive auction, this new film was reportedly handed directly to the studio.

Though Damon has worked with Nolan before on Oppenheimer and Interstellar (2014), this marks Holland's first collaboration with the acclaimed director. Holland’s involvement is expected to have a significant impact on his schedule, as he is also committed to Spider-Man 4 and may be involved in Avengers: Doomsday. Delays on Spider-Man 4 have resulted in Zendaya, his co-star, shifting her schedule to film Dune 3 in early 2026.

Holland, who most recently starred in Apple TV’s 2023 miniseries The Crowded Room, is represented by WME and Sloane Offer.
