The long-awaited Kraven the Hunter movie, featuring a popular villain from the Spider-Man universe, finally hit theatres this week. Directed by J.C. Chandor, the film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, a man driven by a need for vengeance. Russell Crowe portrays his cold and brutal father, Nikolai Kravinoff.
The film explores Kraven's complicated relationship with his father and how it pushes him to become one of the world’s deadliest hunters. Alongside Taylor-Johnson and Crowe, the movie features Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, and Christopher Abbott. Alessandro Nivola plays the film’s primary antagonist, Aleksei Sytsevich, aka Rhino.

Kraven the Hunter is rated R, adding to a growing list of films in 2024 featuring characters from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Before this, the studio released Madame Web in February, followed by Venom: The Last Dance in October, both of which included post-credit scenes teasing future movies in the Spider-Man world.

Fans are always curious about post-credit scenes, which have become a staple in superhero films. These scenes often provide a glimpse of what’s to come, whether it’s hinting at a new sequel or resolving lingering plot points. In the case of Kraven the Hunter, however, moviegoers will be disappointed. The film does not include any post-credit or end-credit scenes, leaving many wondering why.

Reports suggest that Sony might be shifting its focus. According to The Wrap, the company plans to stop producing solo films for most of its Spider-Man universe characters—this includes Kraven, Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web. The focus seems to be solely on Spider-Man moving forward. This change in strategy could explain the lack of a post-credit scene, as Sony is reportedly no longer prioritizing further solo stories for these characters.

This news may be especially disheartening for Kraven the Hunter fans, as the film ends with a suggestion of more adventures to come for Kraven. Additionally, a new villain is introduced at the end, setting up potential future conflicts. But, as things stand now, it seems that these plans are on hold, at least for solo films.

That said, there is a glimmer of hope for characters like Kraven. Thanks to a deal between Sony and Disney, Spider-Man and his related characters are expected to make appearances in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. For example, Venom, despite the uncertainty surrounding Tom Hardy’s role in solo films, could still show up in a future Spider-Man movie.

However, Kraven the Hunter faces an added challenge. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s portrayal of Kraven may clash with his previous role as Quicksilver in the MCU’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though Quicksilver died in that film, some might find it strange to see the actor playing a new character in the same universe. But if the film is a hit, anything is possible.

Kraven the Hunter is now showing in theaters, despite its lack of a post-credit scene.
