After a short break from freezing temperatures, extreme cold warnings are back for most of Saskatchewan. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), dangerously low temperatures and biting wind chills are expected to settle in across the province starting Sunday evening.

By 4 p.m. on Sunday, large parts of the province were placed under an extreme cold warning, including southern Saskatchewan, Regina, and parts of west-central and northwest Saskatchewan, such as Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and North Battleford.

Overnight, temperatures are expected to drop to nearly -30°C. However, the situation will feel even colder due to winds reaching up to 15 km/h, pushing wind chills to a dangerous -45°C. Exposure to such conditions can be hazardous, and officials are urging people to take precautions.

Although wind chills may ease slightly during the day on Monday, the extreme cold is expected to return by Monday night, making outdoor conditions treacherous once again.

Stay Safe in the Cold

ECCC is advising residents to cover up properly if they must go outside, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin. Those spending time outdoors should dress in multiple layers, wear insulated gloves and boots, and protect their face with a scarf or mask.

Pet owners are also reminded to keep their animals indoors as much as possible and ensure they have warm shelter if they need to go outside.

Officials continue to monitor the situation, and residents are encouraged to stay updated on the latest weather alerts.
