The beloved body-swap comedy is back! Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are reprising their iconic roles in Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday.
Disney recently dropped the first trailer, giving fans a glimpse of the chaos and comedy that await in this next chapter.
A New Twist on the Classic Swap
The original film, based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, followed teenage Anna Coleman (Lohan) and her mother Tess (Curtis) as they magically switched bodies and struggled to navigate each other’s lives.
This time, the mother-daughter duo once again find themselves caught in a supernatural mix-up. A visit to a psychic, played by Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer, hints at their past experience. However, things take an unexpected turn when Anna’s biological daughter and stepdaughter also get tangled in the body-swapping chaos.
Nostalgic Nods with a Fresh Story
While Freakier Friday brings a new storyline, it still includes familiar elements that fans of the original will recognize.
Curtis and Lohan had previously expressed their enthusiasm for revisiting their Freaky Friday roles. In a 2023 interview with The New York Times marking the film’s 20th anniversary, Curtis shared how fans frequently asked her about a sequel.
“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” she said. “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”
Lohan echoed the excitement, saying, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
Star-Studded Cast and Release Date
Alongside Curtis and Lohan, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Mark Harmon, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.Fans won’t have to wait too long to experience the magic again—Freakier Friday hits theaters on August 8.
