Sonic the Hedgehog is racing into the world of Magic: The Gathering, and he’s bringing his crew along. This exciting crossover will see the iconic video game franchise join forces with Hasbro’s fantasy card game through a trio of limited-time Secret Lair drops.
Sonic Meets Magic in Style
These new Sonic-themed collections reimagine fan-favorite characters and artifacts from the Sonic universe as Magic cards. From Sonic’s lightning-fast shoes to Knuckles’ legendary gloves, the crossover artfully merges both worlds.
Unlike Magic’s recent full-scale Final Fantasy set, this collaboration follows the Secret Lair format—exclusive drops with handpicked cards, unique artwork, and tight availability windows.
They’re not part of the core Magic set and won’t be available in random booster packs. Instead, fans must grab them directly from MagicSecretLair.com, starting July 14 at 9 a.m. PT.
Three Drops, Three Unique Flavors
The collaboration includes three themed sets:
- “Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes” — Focuses on character cards like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy Rose, Dr. Eggman, and Super Sonic. These are fully original designs paired with exclusive art, some of which comes from renowned Sonic illustrators making their Magic debut.
- “Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure” — A thematic continuation likely focused on story-driven elements and character dynamics from the Sonic universe.
- “Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear” — A standout collection that reimagines iconic Magic equipment cards to fit Sonic’s world. Expect items like Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots reborn as Sonic’s legendary shoes. A reimagined Weatherlight card appears here too, now named Tornado, Sonic’s famous biplane.
Each drop is available in both standard ($29.99–$39.99) and foil editions ($39.99–$49.99), depending on the set.
Build Your Own Sonic Commander Deck
What makes this crossover extra special for Magic fans is how thoughtfully the cards connect. Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) designed the Turbo Gear drop to complement the Friends & Foes collection. This means players can mix and match character and gear cards to build a themed deck right out of the box.
For example, equipping Knuckles’s Gloves (recast from The Reaver Cleaver) to a Knuckles character card offers both visual flair and strategic synergy—just like previous Secret Lair sets such as 2023’s Tomb Raider drop.
Limited-Time Only, So Act Fast
With fan interest already sky-high, this collaboration is expected to sell out quickly. And with past crossovers like Deadpool and SpongeBob vanishing in record time, fans will need to be fast—just like Sonic.
Whether you’re a collector, a Commander player, or a die-hard Sonic fan, this drop is a nostalgic, fast-paced thrill worth chasing.
