McDonald's Canada is making a big leadership change this fall. The company announced that Annemarie Swijtink will become its new President and CEO starting September 1.

Swijtink currently leads McDonald’s Netherlands as Managing Director and has held that role since June 2022. She brings with her nearly two decades of experience within the McDonald’s brand, having worked in various senior roles across Europe.

A New Chapter for McDonald’s Canada

Swijtink is set to take over from Michèle Boudria, who became CEO of McDonald’s Canada in 2022. Boudria made history as the first woman to lead the company in Canada. During her tenure, she established strong ties with local franchise owners and prioritized enhancing the company’s internal relationships and operational efficiency.

McDonald’s Canada praised Boudria for creating a collaborative environment and deepening its connection with communities across the country. Her leadership helped the brand navigate a changing food industry while maintaining its popularity with Canadian customers.

Why Annemarie Swijtink?

According to McDonald’s Canada, Swijtink’s promotion is a natural step forward. The company believes her wide-ranging experience within the McDonald’s system, along with her successful leadership in the Netherlands, will help her continue the company’s growth and evolution in Canada.

Swijtink is known for having a deep understanding of customer needs, team leadership, and franchise operations. These qualities make her well-suited to lead the fast-food giant in a competitive Canadian market.

Looking Ahead

As of September 1, Swijtink will officially step into her new role and begin shaping McDonald's Canada's next chapter. While the company has not yet shared what new directions she might take, insiders expect her to build on current successes while bringing in fresh ideas from her European leadership experience.

This leadership shift marks a significant milestone for the brand in Canada, reflecting both its global strength and ongoing efforts to adapt to evolving customer expectations.
