Taylor Swift vies for Grammy glory, eyeing her fourth Album of the Year win. Can "Anti-Hero" break her Record and Song of the Year jinx? (Getty Images)

February 01, 2024

Taylor Swift, the 34-year-old pop sensation, has undoubtedly made her mark at the Grammys over the years, with a collection of twelve coveted gramophones. Her journey with the awards began in 2008 when her second LP, "Fearless," earned her Album of the Year and Best Country Album. Fast forward to 2021, Swift made history as the first woman to clinch Album of the Year three times.

As the music world gears up for the upcoming Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Swift finds herself in the running for six more trophies. With her latest album, "Midnights," released in 2022, she could potentially secure her fourth Album of the Year, surpassing the three-time record held by Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Stevie Wonder.

However, despite Swift's dominance in the Album of the Year category, there remains a void in her Grammy collection. The other major categories – Record and Song of the Year, along with Best New Artist – have eluded her grasp. Swift's journey to Grammy success began in 2008 when she was nominated for Best New Artist but lost to the late Amy Winehouse.

Surprisingly, Swift has faced repeated setbacks in the Record and Song of the Year categories, despite multiple nominations. Notable instances include losing to Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" and Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" in 2010, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Lorde's "Royals" in 2014, and Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" in 2016.

Swift's songs, such as "Blank Space" in 2016 and nominations for "Lover," "Cardigan," and the extended version of "All Too Well" in subsequent years, have not translated into wins in the Record and Song of the Year categories. Despite her track record, Swift's latest single, "Anti-Hero," is poised to break this streak, facing competition from Miley Cyrus' "Flowers," Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" and SZA's "Kill Bill."

Even if Swift faces disappointment in these categories once again, she can take solace in the possibility of another Album of the Year accolade. Furthermore, the support of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs and is set to compete in the Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11, adds an extra layer of excitement to Swift's Grammy journey. As the music world awaits the results, Swift remains a prominent figure, continually rewriting the record books in her own right.
