Timothée Chalamet has finally put an end to one of the internet’s most unlikely theories. The Oscar-nominated actor has confirmed he is not anonymous rapper EsDeeKid — by appearing alongside him in a new music video.
For weeks, fans speculated that Chalamet was secretly living a double life as the masked UK drill artist. The rumours gained momentum after listeners claimed EsDeeKid’s eyes looked suspiciously similar to the actor’s.
Rumours fuelled by silence
The speculation only intensified when Chalamet refused to deny the theory outright. Asked earlier this week by the BBC about the supposed connection, he replied cryptically: “No comment… You’ll see, all in due time.”
That response sent fans into overdrive. At the same time, EsDeeKid was climbing the UK charts while Chalamet was busy promoting his latest film.
Both stayed silent. The mystery grew.
The reveal arrives in rap form
The rumours came to a sudden end with the release of a new remix of EsDeeKid’s Top 40 hit 4Raws. The video features Chalamet rapping alongside the masked artist.
In a playful nod to the conspiracy, the clip opens with Chalamet showing only his eyes, mirroring EsDeeKid’s signature look. Moments later, he pulls down the bandana and reveals his face.
“It’s Timothée Chalamet chillin’, tryin’ to stack $100 million,” he raps, putting the theory to rest.
Kylie Jenner reference and London setting
Chalamet also slips in a reference to his partner Kylie Jenner, boasting: “Girl got $1 billion.”
The video was filmed at Andover Minimarket Off Licence in north London. EsDeeKid reposted the clip, confirming the collaboration and adding fuel to its viral spread.
A long-running fan theory ends
Fans had pointed to eye shape, timing, and Chalamet’s known interest in hip-hop as clues. The actor even rapped under the nickname “Lil Timmy Tim” during his high school years.
Still, the idea that he could convincingly perform with EsDeeKid’s strong Liverpudlian accent always seemed a stretch.
The collaboration finally made that clear.
Social media reacts fast
The video quickly took off online. British rapper Central Cee reacted with disbelief, posting “Naaa” alongside laughing emojis.
Tinie Tempah called the clip “sick,” while US artist Shaboozey predicted it would go straight to number one.
BBC Radio One’s Greg James, who had questioned Chalamet about the rumours days earlier, updated his social media caption to say: “All was revealed.”
A clever promotional move
Chalamet also gave multiple shout-outs to Marty Supreme, his upcoming film, weaving the collaboration into an already savvy promotional campaign.
While the conspiracy may have been entertaining, the reveal proved even better. Chalamet was never EsDeeKid — but teaming up with him turned a viral rumour into a headline-grabbing moment.
In the end, the mystery didn’t just end. It dropped bars.
