Police in northern Saskatchewan continue to investigate a report of gunshots on a First Nation as concerns linger after a deadly shooting last week. Officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded late Friday night to a call from Big Island Lake Cree Nation.

The community sits about 400 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon. Police arrived quickly and searched the area but did not find anyone hurt at the scene.

Possible Link Under Review

Mounties said they are now working to find out whether the reported gunfire connects to a shooting that happened early in the morning on Dec. 30. That earlier incident shook the community and left one person dead. Three others suffered injuries.

Police have not confirmed any direct link between the two events. Investigators continue to gather information, speak with residents, and review details from both incidents.

Search for Suspects Continues

Authorities remain focused on locating two suspects wanted in connection with the Dec. 30 shooting. Police have increased security in and around the First Nation while the search continues.

Extra patrols and a stronger police presence aim to help residents feel safer as the investigation moves forward. Mounties urge anyone with information to come forward, saying even small details could help.

Community Feels the Strain

Leaders within Big Island Lake Cree Nation say the events have placed heavy stress on the community. Geoff Sandfly, the band manager, said the loss has hit close to home.

“I knew the man who was killed,” Sandfly said.

He explained that fear and sadness now weigh on residents as they wait for answers. Families continue to support one another while hoping for peace and clarity.

Calls for Calm and Support

Community members have called for calm as police work through the investigation. Leaders encourage residents to look after one another and report concerns directly to authorities.

Police say they understand the worry such events cause, especially in smaller and close-knit communities. They stressed that officers will remain present until they ensure public safety.

Investigation Remains Active

Mounties continue to review evidence from both the reported gunshots and the earlier deadly shooting. They say the investigation remains active and complex.

Police have not released further details about the suspects or the motive behind the shooting. They ask the public to avoid spreading rumours and rely on confirmed information as the case unfolds.

As the search continues, residents of Big Island Lake Cree Nation wait for reassurance and justice, hoping the coming days bring answers and a sense of calm back to their community.
