Mark Ruffalo, known for his portrayal of Dr. Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared his thoughts on the possibility of a standalone Hulk movie in a recent interview with GQ. The 56-year-old actor expressed a desire to do a standalone Hulk film but believes it's unlikely due to the high cost associated with creating a whole movie centered around the character.
Ruffalo took over the role of the Hulk from Edward Norton in 2012's "The Avengers" and has since appeared in eight films, including the Disney+ miniseries "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." He praised Marvel's expansion into streaming but also acknowledged the unique charm of waiting three years between films, which created a sense of anticipation and mystique.
Despite his success with Marvel, Ruffalo has continued to pursue more serious roles and has received a Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination for his work in the film "Poor Things." He expressed his admiration for his Marvel co-star Robert Downey Jr., who is also nominated for an Oscar, and emphasized the importance of celebrating each other's achievements.
Ruffalo also discussed his initial concerns about filming intimate scenes for "Poor Things" and the pressure he felt due to Hollywood's current attitudes towards sexuality in films. He ultimately found the experience comedic and an extension of the film's physical comedy.
As for his future with Marvel, Ruffalo's involvement in the upcoming "Avengers" films remains uncertain. However, he is looking forward to the 96th Academy Awards and the opportunity to celebrate his fellow actors' accomplishments.
