The weeks-long strike at a transhipment facility near Halifax has come to a close following the ratification of a three-year collective agreement by union members.
Over 230 unionized workers at the CN Autoport facility in Eastern Passage, N.S., initiated the strike in late February. Unifor, the union representing the workers, announced that each year of the agreement would entail wage increases, alongside lump-sum bonuses in the first two years.
Moreover, the agreement includes provisions for an additional paid personal day and enhancements to vacation benefits, pension plans, and the cost of healthcare benefits.
A tentative agreement was reached late Tuesday, with union members casting their votes on Wednesday to ratify the deal.
According to Unifor, Autoport, a wholly owned subsidiary of CN Rail, ranks among the busiest facilities of its kind in North America, managing nearly 185,000 vehicles annually.
