Canadians can now enjoy free and discounted access to parks, museums, and more with the new Canada Strong Pass, which officially began on Friday. The program will run until September 2, giving people plenty of time to travel, explore, and save money this summer.

A Summer Full of Savings

The Canada Strong Pass offers:

  • Free admission to national parks, historic sites, and marine conservation areas
  • Discounted VIA Rail tickets for youth and young adults
  • Reduced prices at participating museums and galleries across the country

Anyone can enjoy the benefits, including visitors, temporary residents, and newcomers. No registration is needed. You just show up at the location or book online where required.

Why the Government Launched It

Prime Minister Mark Carney introduced the pass earlier this month. He said the goal is to encourage Canadians to explore their own country. At the same time, it helps ease travel costs during economic uncertainty and growing trade tensions with the United States.

“This pass is about making travel more affordable for Canadians and giving families a chance to enjoy their summer,” Carney explained during the announcement.

Who Gets What?

Children aged 17 and under get:

  • Free VIA Rail travel when accompanied by a fare-paying adult
  • Free entry to all national and selected provincial or territorial museums

Young adults aged 18 to 24 receive:

  • 25% off VIA Rail Escape and Economy fares
  • 50% off admission at museums and galleries

All ages benefit from:

  • Free entry to all Parks Canada sites
  • 25% off camping and roofed lodging
  • Waived backcountry day-use fees in northern Canada
  • 25% off overnight backcountry fees
  • Free lockage at historic canals
  • Some refunds for previously booked travel or park reservations

No Card, No Sign-Up

The Canada Strong Pass doesn’t need a physical or digital pass. It also doesn’t require you to sign up or pay anything. Simply show up or reserve online for services like campsites or train travel. Discounts and perks apply automatically.

How to Check What’s Available

Canadians can visit official platforms or directly contact locations like Parks Canada or VIA Rail to confirm what’s included and how to access it.

Carney encouraged everyone to take advantage of the summer offer. “We want Canadians to feel proud of what their country has to offer,” he said.
