The Philadelphia Eagles came off of their BYE week and went into Green Bay, where they beat the Packers in a defensive showcase from Lambeau Field.

The Philadelphia Eagles survived a defensive showdown with the Green Bay Packers, winning 10-7 on Monday night. A clutch touchdown from DeVonta Smith and key plays from newcomer Jaelan Phillips helped the defending champions secure the victory.

Phillips Makes Immediate Impact

Jaelan Phillips, acquired from the Miami Dolphins at the trade deadline, wasted no time making a difference. In his Eagles debut, he recovered a crucial fumble by Jordan Love and assisted in a fourth-and-1 stop late in the game.

“The biggest thing I noticed was just no panic,” Phillips said. “The confidence on both sides of the ball was clear.”

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni praised Phillips’ work ethic, noting his constant energy in practice and games.

Eagles Strike Late

The only Eagles touchdown came on a 36-yard pass from Jalen Hurts to DeVonta Smith with 10:35 remaining. Saquon Barkley set up the score with a 41-yard gain, using a spin move to evade defenders.

“Two to three big plays can change the game for this offense,” Barkley said.

Green Bay’s lone score came from Josh Jacobs, who ran six yards for a touchdown with under six minutes left.

Packers Fall Short

The Packers had multiple opportunities to tie, including a final 64-yard field goal attempt by Brandon McManus, which fell short as time expired.

“They made too many mistakes offensively,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “Our defense was outstanding, but execution hurt us.”

Green Bay’s second consecutive loss drops them to 5-3-1, behind Detroit and Chicago in the NFC North.

Defensive Battle Highlights

The game featured a rare scoreless first half, the first since December 2023. Both defenses dominated, limiting explosive plays until the fourth quarter.

Phillips’ fumble recovery and critical fourth-down stop were key moments in the Eagles’ defensive effort. Green Bay also suffered a fumble from Jacobs late, further sealing the game.

Historical Context

Philadelphia had beaten Green Bay twice last season, including a wild-card playoff victory. The teams also debated the controversial tush push tactic during the offseason. The Packers executed a quarterback sneak early, while the Eagles successfully used the push in short-yardage situations.

Injuries

Eagles: RT Lane Johnson left temporarily with an ankle injury but returned. C Cam Jurgens missed the game due to a knee issue.

Packers: C Elgton Jenkins and WR Romeo Doubs left with injuries. WR Matthew Golden, DL Lukas Van Ness, and CB Nate Hobbs did not play.

What It Means

The win keeps the Eagles (7-2) atop NFC standings, demonstrating their championship resilience. Green Bay’s recent struggles highlight offensive inconsistencies despite a strong defense.

The matchup showed that even defensive-heavy games can hinge on a few pivotal plays. For Philadelphia, Phillips’ arrival and Smith’s clutch touchdown may prove crucial as they defend their Super Bowl title.
