Gwyneth Paltrow’s appearance at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15 had everyone talking. The actress stunned on the red carpet in a strapless ivory silk gown by Giorgio Armani Privé. While the dress appeared simple and elegant at first, a closer look revealed slits running down the sides, exposing Paltrow’s bare skin, which was only covered by sheer, sparkly pants. This bold fashion choice quickly became one of the most talked-about looks of the night.
Behind the Scenes of the Oscars Dress
In a behind-the-scenes video shared on her Goop YouTube channel, Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about the sacrifice she made for the sake of fashion. While preparing for the Oscars, Paltrow revealed a major inconvenience: she was "sewn into" her dress. The fitting was so tight that she couldn’t even use the bathroom during the event.

“It’s kind of simple, it’s pretty,” Paltrow said to her daughter, Apple, 21, during a FaceTime call. "I won’t be able to pee for the whole time I’m there," she added, making light of the sacrifice she had made in the name of fashion.
Gwyneth’s Return to Acting
Despite this uncomfortable situation, Gwyneth was in high spirits at the event. She was there to present the Oscar for Best Casting, following her return to acting in the film Marty Supreme, which was nominated for nine Oscars. Though Marty Supreme didn’t win any of its nominations, Gwyneth seemed proud of her return to the big screen, especially after admitting that she had felt "petrified" and "very, very rusty" at the beginning of filming. She credited director Josh Safdie for helping her regain confidence and ease into her role, sparking her passion for acting once again.
A Big Night for One Battle After Another
While Gwyneth was a part of the night’s festivities, the big winner at the Oscars was One Battle After Another, which took home several awards, including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture. The film’s cast and crew were honored throughout the evening for their contributions to the industry.

However, one notable absence was Sean Penn, who chose not to attend the ceremony. Reports suggested that his decision to skip the event was politically motivated. Instead, Penn traveled to Ukraine, where he received a custom Oscar statuette made from salvaged metal from a railcar destroyed by Russia. Ukrainian Railways CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi presented Penn with the special Oscar, saying, “This is made from the railcar that was damaged by the Russians. The metal survived, so we put some words here. It’s very special for us. It’s not golden but it’s very real and from the bottom of our hearts.”
Gwyneth’s Bold Fashion Choice
Gwyneth Paltrow’s daring Oscars dress was not just a fashion statement, but a reflection of her bold personality. While the discomfort of being "sewn into" her gown might have made the night a bit more challenging, it didn’t stop her from shining on one of Hollywood’s biggest stages. Her fashion choice, showcasing her toned legs as she walked the red carpet, made an unforgettable impact on the evening.
Despite the sacrifices made for her appearance, Gwyneth’s return to the Oscars was marked by confidence, beauty, and grace. The ceremony highlighted not just her fashion, but also her contribution to the world of cinema, proving that sometimes, a little discomfort is worth the unforgettable moments.
