The Carolina Hurricanes head north to Winnipeg on Friday, looking to regain momentum against the Jets. Both teams are known for strong regular-season performances, but Carolina is hoping to find consistency after a mixed run of results.

Hurricanes Struggle to Maintain Streaks

Carolina’s four-game win streak ended on Nov. 9, and the team has gone 2-1-2 in its past five games. Their most recent loss came in a 4-3 shootout defeat to the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes erased a two-goal deficit, with Sebastian Aho scoring his eighth goal of the season and Jackson Blake netting his second of the night. However, the Wild sealed the win in the shootout.

“Losing is never fun, but there’s a lot we can build from this game,” Blake said. “We compete, but we need to avoid giving away freebies.”

Carolina will be looking to solve their early-game struggles, having allowed the opening goal in seven of their past 10 games.

Jets Get Boost from Lowry Extension

The Winnipeg Jets received a morale boost with captain Adam Lowry signing a five-year, $25 million contract extension on Wednesday. Lowry has led the team as captain since the 2023-24 season, and the extension solidifies his leadership role.

On the ice, the Jets have been performing well, winning three of their past four games. Their latest victory was a 5-2 home win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Scheifele Breaks Record, Leads Jets

Mark Scheifele made history in his 898th game with the Jets, setting a franchise record. He also contributed three assists, continuing to make a strong case for Canada’s Olympic team.

“That’s special,” Jets coach Scott Arniel said. “He’s an elite athlete and takes pride in maintaining consistency nearly every season.”

Scheifele now has nine multi-point games through 19 appearances and leads Winnipeg with 27 points.

Jets Defenders and Key Players in Form

Defenseman Josh Morrissey has been red-hot, extending his point streak to six games after recording a goal and an assist on Tuesday.

Other contributors include Kyle Connor and Neal Pionk, who each had a goal and assist, and Nino Niederreiter, who added two assists.

Netminder Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start Friday, returning after Eric Comrie made 20 saves in a rare start. Hellebuyck, last season’s Hart Memorial Trophy winner, is looking to regain form after allowing three or more goals in six of his last eight games.

Head-to-Head History

Winnipeg has had the upper hand in recent encounters, winning each of the last three home meetings with Carolina. Overall, Carolina has taken six of the previous 10 matchups between the two teams.

Friday’s game promises to be a high-stakes showdown, with the Hurricanes eager to stabilize their performance and the Jets aiming to maintain their home dominance.
