Katy Merrifield, communications director for Pierre Poilievre, has announced she will leave her role later this week.
In a message sent to members of the Conservative caucus on Tuesday, Merrifield confirmed her last day in the Opposition Leader’s Office will be Friday.
Her departure marks a change in the leadership team as the party continues its work in Parliament.
New Appointments Confirmed
Merrifield also shared details about who will take over key responsibilities. She said Micah Green will step into the role of communications director.
At the same time, Sam Lilly will move into the position of media relations director.
Merrifield noted that she recommended both individuals for their new roles, pointing to their experience and work within the team.
Role in Expanding Outreach
Merrifield joined Poilievre’s team last year during a period when the party increased its public outreach.
At that time, Poilievre began appearing more often in mainstream interviews and worked to connect with a wider audience. Merrifield played a role in shaping that approach and supporting communication efforts.
Her work helped guide how the party shared its message with Canadians during a busy political period.
Plans Beyond Politics
In her message, Merrifield said she plans to focus on personal projects that she had set aside while taking on the senior role.
She described these as “passion” projects, suggesting a return to interests she had paused during her time in political communications.
A Moment of Transition
This leadership change comes as the Conservative Party continues to prepare for future political challenges. Changes in senior staff often reflect shifting priorities or new directions within a team.
While Merrifield steps away, her recommended successors now take on key roles in shaping the party’s communication strategy moving forward.
Looking Ahead
The transition signals a new phase for the Opposition Leader’s Office. With fresh leadership in communications, the party will continue its efforts to connect with Canadians and present its message clearly.
Merrifield’s departure closes one chapter, while the new appointments open another for the team.
