Barcelona’s veteran striker Robert Lewandowski once again proved his class, coming off the bench to secure a 3-1 La Liga win over Real Oviedo. The Poland international netted the decisive goal after an earlier mistake from goalkeeper Joan Garcia had put the hosts ahead.

Barcelona faced a stern test after Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Levante earlier in the week. With the title race heating up, the reigning champions needed a response, but their start against Oviedo was far from convincing.

Horror Show From Garcia Gives Oviedo Early Lead

Joan Garcia’s error in the 33rd minute gifted Real Oviedo the opener. The Barcelona goalkeeper made a risky pass far from his goal, which Alberto Reina intercepted. Reina calmly fired from 40 yards to put the hosts ahead.

The mistake shook Barcelona, leaving the team searching for answers in the first half. Despite their dominance in possession, clear chances were scarce.

Barcelona Fight Back Through Eric Garcia

The reigning champions finally responded in the 56th minute. Ferran Torres’ powerful shot was saved, but Eric Garcia reacted quickly, tapping in from close range to level the score.

Eric Garcia’s presence in attack has been a revelation this season. His awareness and positioning make him a constant threat, and his equaliser showed his growing confidence.

Lewandowski Strikes as a Super Sub

Twenty minutes from time, Lewandowski turned the game in Barcelona’s favour. The 37-year-old rose to head the ball home off the underside of the bar, sealing a crucial lead.

Despite his age, Lewandowski continues to demonstrate clinical finishing and an ability to deliver in key moments. His impact off the bench proved decisive once again.

Araujo Seals Victory in the Closing Stages

Barcelona ensured all three points with a late strike from Ronald Araujo in the 89th minute. The defender’s glancing header found the corner, capitalising on a tiring Oviedo defence.

Araujo’s pace and timing were key throughout the match. Alongside his late goal, he made several crucial defensive interventions to keep Barcelona ahead.

Player Ratings: Barcelona vs Real Oviedo

Joan Garcia (4/10):
A horror show for Oviedo’s opener. Made one notable save late, but overall looked uncomfortable.

Eric Garcia (8/10):
Reliable at the back and decisive in attack. Scored the equaliser with perfect timing.

Ronald Araujo (8/10):
Strong in defence and attack. Scored the late winner with a precise header.

Pau Cubarsi (6/10):
Quiet and effective, mostly stayed back as others pushed forward.

Gerard Martin (5/10):
Struggled against Haissem Hassan. A tough night for the defender.

Pedri (7/10):
Controlled Barcelona’s midfield and became increasingly influential as the game progressed.

Marc Casado (5/10):
Missed Frenkie de Jong’s quality in midfield; replaced at halftime.

Dani Olmo (5/10):
Sloppy at times and less effective than previous games.

Raphinha (6/10):
Threatened with long-range efforts. Replaced after a busy hour.

Ferran Torres (7/10):
Instinctive and confident in front of goal; created the equaliser.

Marcus Rashford (7/10):
Energetic and committed, but decision-making can be inconsistent.

Robert Lewandowski (9/10):
Came off the bench to score the match-winner. Clinical and composed under pressure.

Barcelona Close Gap on Madrid

The victory moves Barcelona within two points of Real Madrid after six La Liga games. Lewandowski’s decisive intervention and contributions from Araujo and Eric Garcia ensured the champions stay in the title hunt.

Barcelona will look to build on this performance as the season progresses, with Lewandowski showing he remains a game-changer even off the bench.
