A unique museum adventure is coming back to life in New York City, and it’s just in time to make new memories. The American Museum of Natural History has officially brought back its popular overnight event, A Night at the Museum: The Overnight Experience, giving families a chance to spend the night among dinosaurs, whales, and ancient wonders.

A Magical Night for Families

The overnight program first launched in 2006 after the success of the movie Night at the Museum. It became an instant hit with families. The event took a long pause due to the pandemic, but it's now back and better than ever.

Children aged 6 to 12 and their caregivers can now once again enjoy flashlight tours, scavenger hunts, games, and more inside one of the most iconic museums in the country.

“This experience is sure to create memories that families will treasure forever,” said Sean Decatur, the museum’s president.

What the Night Includes

Each overnight stay includes self-guided tours of the museum’s first and second floor galleries. Families can explore exhibits at their own pace, taking in everything from giant dinosaurs to a massive blue whale.

The event also features:

  • Group games and scavenger hunts
  • Flashlight-led gallery explorations
  • A bedtime story for young visitors
  • Live presentations
  • Bedtime snacks and a light breakfast
  • A round of karaoke for fun-loving guests

Every child also receives a special keepsake and a voucher for daytime admission, allowing them to return and explore even more.

Dates and Ticket Info

The overnight events start October 24, 2025, and run once a month until June 5, 2026.
Tickets for museum members go on sale September 30 at 10:30 a.m. General admission tickets become available October 7.

Demand is expected to be high, so parents are encouraged to book early.

A Night to Remember

There’s something truly special about walking through a museum in the dark, guided only by a flashlight. Seeing the towering Tyrannosaurus rex or standing beneath the life-sized blue whale after hours turns a simple museum visit into an unforgettable adventure.

Whether it’s your child’s first visit or your family has been before, this overnight event offers a one-of-a-kind way to connect, learn, and create lasting memories.
