The Toronto Raptors survived a nail-biting 110-108 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, showcasing both talent and resilience.

Scottie Barnes delivered 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists, and made a key block with 0.2 seconds left. His play came just 18.2 seconds after RJ Barrett scored the game-winning layup.

“We need to know how we can get better and keep growing,” said Barnes. “Every game is a lesson. We’ve got to hold each other accountable.”

Raptors Extend Winning Streak

Toronto improved to 9-5, marking their fourth consecutive win. The victory pushed the Raptors a half-game ahead of the New York Knicks in the Atlantic Division and into third place in the Eastern Conference.

Barnes emphasized humility despite success. “It’s great that we’re winning games, but stay humble and hungry. It’s only the beginning of the season.”

Brandon Ingram Leads the Charge

Brandon Ingram scored a game-high 27 points, along with six rebounds. He made a critical block on rookie Ryan Kalkbrenner in the final seconds.

Ingram highlighted the importance of performing under pressure. “It’s practice for our long-term goals, figuring out the best shot and backing each other up on defense,” he said.

He also delivered a highlight-reel dunk with 6:43 left, impressing after a season-long recovery from a left ankle sprain. “It was a confidence builder, just getting to the rim and finishing over the top,” Ingram noted.

Key Plays Define the Game

Charlotte’s Kon Knueppel scored 24 points, while LaMelo Ball added 20 points and eight assists. Miles Bridges gave the Hornets a 108-106 lead with a long three-pointer at 1:41 left.

Barnes responded immediately with a thunderous two-handed dunk to tie the game at 108-108. A Quickley block on Ball’s floater allowed Ingram to set up Barrett for the decisive layup with 18.4 seconds remaining.

Barnes praised Ingram’s offensive threat. “He draws so much attention. That extra play by RJ at the end put us in the lead.”

Depth Shows for Raptors

Despite occasional disorganization, six Raptors reached double digits in scoring. Alongside Barnes, Ingram, and Quickley, Barrett (16), Jakob Poeltl (13), and reserve Gradey Dick (10) contributed key points.

“This is good film for us to watch,” said head coach Darko Rajakovic. “Extraordinary things down the stretch — rim protection, blocks, rebounds — it shows how we can close games better.”

Free-Throw Controversy

The Hornets were awarded 30 free throws, making 24, while Toronto attempted only 16, sinking 12. When asked about the disparity, Rajakovic joked, “Talking about the game tonight? You want me to get fined? No comment.”

Looking Ahead

The Raptors’ victory highlighted their growing chemistry, clutch execution, and defensive commitment. Barnes and Ingram’s performances were key, while the team’s depth ensured balanced scoring.

As the season continues, Toronto aims to build on these close-game lessons and maintain momentum in the competitive Eastern Conference.
